Philosophy for Children

Philosophical Practice or Methodological-Didactic Innovation?

Vincenza Merlino

This paper addresses the topic of Philosophy for Children (P4C) from an epistemological point of view. In particular, I endeavor to show that P4C as a philosophical-educational practice is not only an innovative teaching methodology. Furthermore, analyzing the impact of P4C within non-formative contexts, the paper highlights the need to rethink philosophical practice as something able to reunite two different conceptions of philosophy: philosophy as a critical thinking methodology and philosophy as the set of ideas underlying our cultural tradition.
