Genesis and Representation of Political Concepts in Carl Schmitt. For a Theological-Political Interpretation of the Sociological Method
by Roberta De Rosa
In Carl Schmitt’s well-known essay Political Theology, we find the basis of the Schmittian sociological method – the sociology of legal concepts – which can be summarised in the famous statement: “All significant concepts of modern state theory are secularised theological concepts…”. Starting from this conception, the main purpose of this paper is to outline he relationship between political theology, secularization and sociological method in Carl Schmitt through the main concepts of his theological political theory. The main thesis consists in the identification of an unavoidable metaphysical heritage that follows the historical evolution of every political structure and demonstrates the validity of its juridical concepts.
